Project Architect – Aiken, South Carolina Office

About:

Meadors is seeking an experienced project architect to assist with the opening of an architecture office in Aiken, SC. Meadors is engaged in Aiken and continues to build on its relationships. Meadors is looking to establish an office in Aiken. The candidate that is selected for this position will help lead this effort by living in the community and working with Meadors team. This position will be full time in Aiken, SC.

Located in Charleston, SC, Meadors continues to focus its efforts on creating an environment where talented, passionate, and dedicated men and women can apply their skills to the architectural and construction processes in both new construction and historic restoration.  Our work is diverse and matches the talent of our individual employees.

Meadors is comprised of six workshops:  Architecture & Interior Design, Construction, Conservation & Preservation Planning, Design Services, Cabinetry & Millwork, and Estate Management & Maintenance.  Our commitment is to preserve the heritage and durability of traditional building techniques, materials, and design, while also maintaining a commitment to sustainability and efficiency.  

Requirements:

·       Candidate must be a registered architect in the State of South Carolina with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience.

·       Our firm specializes in custom high-end residential and light commercial work. We focus on historic preservation/restoration, alterations/additions, and new construction. Candidate must demonstrate related experience.

Essential Job Responsibilities Included:

  • Meeting and discussing with clients their design and construction requirements

  • Participate in marketing efforts and lead presentations to prospective clients

  • Designing and drafting building plans for various construction projects

  • Preparing and providing clients with materials and project specification lists

  • Overseeing the work of construction workers, contractors, and other team members

  • Undertaking regular site visits to check for quality and conformance with construction documents

  • Developing and maintaining project schedules

  • Participate in field assignments such as construction administration, conditions assessments, and site analysis

  • Participate in all stages of project development, performing conceptual analysis documentation, developing construction documents, submitting the bid set, and monitoring the bid process, and full construction administration services

  • Participate in the coordination of drawings and specifications

  • Assist in construction observation activities and the development of associated field reports, RFI responses, review pay applications, and submittal/shop drawing reviews

  • Contribute to collaborative working relationships with clients, architecture and interiors team, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders

  • Make presentations to clients, stakeholders, zoning, architecture review boards, etc.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team, while coordinating with the various workshops within Meadors and with Meadors’ consultants and subcontractors

  • Ability to lead and guide the production of construction documents

  • Thorough knowledge of codes and zoning regulations

  • Experience with presenting to historic review boards, architecture review boards, or similar

  • Proactive communication, problem solving, and self-direction

Job Type: full time in Aiken, SC

Compensation:

Compensation package commensurate to experience and also includes health benefits, paid company holidays, and vacations.

 

Pay: Salary starting at $85,000 dependent on experience.

Cabinetry & Millwork Shop Director

The Meadors Cabinetry and Millwork shop creates a diverse body of work in support of its partner workshops.

 

The Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for quality control of projects leaving the shop

  • Continuously and consistently improve processes and standards

  • Manage the shop workforce which includes hiring of new employees and conducting reviews of existing employees

  • Develop and maintain a cohesive workforce culture of teamwork and excellence

  • Visible on the shop floor much of each day

  • Mentor and provide continual training on processes, and alternate techniques/solutions – foster a culture of continuous improvement

  • Ensure the shop is compliant with and operates within all OSHA guidelines and documenting employees have timely and successfully completed safety training

  • Maintain a safe work environment for all employees

  • Continually monitor shop safety practices for compliance and hold regular weekly safety meetings to ensure safety goals are on-track

  • Oversee and incorporate shop floor organization and cleanliness among all personnel

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients

  • Build business with current customers by delivering on promises and create new business with potential customers in a proactive manner, promoting all of company services

  • Administer contracts and material orders

  • Determine long lead time items

  • Verify job readiness and coordinate the installation of product with field and installers

  • Verify field dimensions, backing locations, and mechanical/electrical rough-ins

  • Create and manage project-specific schedules

  • Responsible for creating and communicating the detailed scope of work for the rest of the shop team

  • Responsible for drawing reviews prior to release to shop floor

  • Estimating millwork pricing for projects and creating proposals for jobs

  • Confirm and assist with material orders per drawings prior to beginning fabrication

  • Working with customers, project managers, architects and designers, and field staff on field measuring, programming, building, and installing custom millwork

  • Reading blueprints, performing takeoffs, ordering, and tracking materials

  • Programming for fabricating (CNC)

  • Attend on-site meetings and client project meetings

  • Oversee the installation of millwork and casework

  • Managing millwork/casework carpenters and laborers during fabrication, delivery, finishing, and installation process

  • Manage the finish (transparent and opaque) process of the shop and help finishing team coordinate the various finish requirements and prioritize their schedules and tasks to ensure efficient and effective operation.

  • Ensure the finished product is properly and effectively protected during shipping to jobsite and installation at jobsite

  • Coordinate with shipping and transport to ensure proper delivery of product to jobsite

  • Monitor the progress payment requests to eliminate underbilling

  • Monitor the progress of the assigned projects – correspondence, job cost reports, progress billings, and field reports and keep the team informed of unresolved problems

  • Maintain focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations

Requirements:

·       Proven experience in cabinetry and millwork design, fabrication, and/or installation or equivalent experience

·       High attention to detail and desire for excellence

·       Ability to self-manage, manage others, delegate tasks, and work with other departments productively

·       Superior conflict resolution skills

·       Strong leadership skills

·       Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects with budgets ranging from $10,000 to $500,000

·       Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time

·       Experience in CAD program (preferred)

·       Experience in Cabinet Vision (preferred)

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Ability to make critical decisions when prioritizing tasks and goals

·       Experience leading crews

·       Driver’s license required

Carpenter

 Meadors Inc. has an opening for a Carpenter to join our Estate Management and Maintenance Workshop. The Carpenter will supervise and work collaboratively with a helper.
